Fla. tourism officials highlight agents' importance to industry

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau hosted a gathering for travel agents last week to strengthen ties with the travel-agent community and to recognize agents' contributions to the region's tourism boom. "These agents represent more than $300 million in travel industry sales. They're selling all segments of travel and have diverse clientele from millionaires to average-income people," said Alicia Evanko, Travel Weekly's vice president for events.
