Japanese schools assign homework over the summer

In this blog post, Yumiko Ono, a mother in Japan, writes about her daughter's plans over summer break -- homework, homework and more homework. Ono writes that her daughter was given a slew of homework and research assignments -- including maths and Japanese drills and a book report -- to complete during her five-week summer vacation. The assignments, experts say, are meant to help students avoid summer learning loss.
