The rising tide of bottled water

Consumption of bottled water rose 6.2% in 2012, with the average consumer drinking 31 gallons per year, said the International Bottled Water Association. Consumption in the category, second only to carbonated soft drinks, is spurred by "great positioning as a healthy beverage, as well as aggressive pricing," said Gary Hemphill, managing director of research at Beverage Marketing Corp.
