Study finds overprescribing, excessive imaging for back pain

Many providers don't follow guidelines when treating back pain, according to a study in JAMA Internal Medicine. Researchers looked at data from almost 24,000 patient visits in the U.S. from 1999 to 2010 and found that the proportion of back pain patients given narcotics and screened with CT or MRI increased.
