Why some schools are putting recess on the back burner

Even as research shows the benefits of recess for students, data show that the allotted time for recess is at an all-time low in some schools. Even as a growing number of educators are recognizing the importance of recess for students, some challenges remain, such as time constraints and an emphasis on standardized testing. Lawmakers in New Jersey are considering making some recess time mandatory for all elementary-school students.
