Alcatel-Lucent reported a profit in the second quarter, which came as a surprise to the Street. CEO Ben Verwaayen said, "We've said that every quarter will be a little better than the previous one. Asia has played a very important role in that." Alcatel also said that Canadian startup Globalive Wireless had awarded the vendor a three-year contract to build an "LTE-ready" 3G network.
