Construction firms wary of adding workers, experts say

Construction companies are hesitant to hire more workers, even as the economy shows some signs of improvement, industry experts say. Kermit Baker, an economist, said extensive layoffs during the downturn have made employers wary of expanding their staffs. Meanwhile, Reed Construction Data chief economist Jim Haughey expects a burst of recovery this summer and sluggish growth for the rest of 2009.
