GAO: Defense, VA departments show progress in EHR interoperability

The health care units of the Defense and Veterans Affairs departments have accomplished three out of six interoperability objectives in the implementation of their independent electronic health records systems, the Government Accountability Office said in a report. The organizations still need to work on moving periodic health assessment data from Defense computers to the VA, among other requirements, according to the report.
