Union pushes for more transparency in hiring

The teachers union in Broward County, Fla., is suing the school district in an effort to ascertain whether the district is considering rehiring teachers lost during June layoffs. The district laid off nearly 400 teachers and rehired at least 133. The union's suit calls for the district to release information on the laid-off teachers, to ensure they are considered for 89 more openings if qualified. The district has said none of the laid-off teachers qualify.
