Fracking tools could unlock geothermal energy

Fracking technologies could be used to create enhanced geothermal systems, or EGSs, experts say. Fracking methods let geothermal prospectors crack open rocks, releasing the heat and energy below, explains Douglas Hollett, director of the Geothermal Technologies Office at the U.S. Department of Energy. "The key is learning how to do it in a reliable way, in a responsible way," he says.
