Historic bipartisan TSCA legislation is subject of marathon Senate hearing

The Lautenberg-Vitter bill to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act may need changes but it provides a unique opportunity for progress, writes Andy Igrejas, national campaign director for Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families. The "Chemical Safety Improvement Act," which is the subject of a Senate hearing today, is "carefully crafted to address the long identified problems in current law" while creating "certainty for the producers of these products," notes Sen. David Vitter, R-La. The American Chemistry Council supports the bill as "a sensible compromise that will enhance public safety and promote innovation, growth and job creation by U.S. manufacturers," said spokeswoman Anne Kolton.
