UP invests millions in track upgrades in Calif.

Union Pacific is investing between $10 million and $12 million to upgrade tracks in Benicia, Calif., to support a proposed crude-by-rail operation. The project's benefits include upgraded crossings, better traffic flow due to an improved Park Road-Industrial Way intersection, and enhanced train fluidity, according to UP officials. The project is part of the railroad's $3.6 billion capital spending plan this year, said UP spokeswoman Liisa Stark.
