The Shaheen-Portman energy-efficiency bill "could save $1 trillion over the next decade" through building upgrades, write the bill's co-sponsors, Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Rob Portman, R-Ohio. "The legislation strengthens model building codes to make new homes and commercial buildings more energy efficient, while also making these codes and the code-writing process more transparent," they add. The bill will most likely see a final vote after the August recess, Shaheen said.
