Telus escalates Canadian ownership flap with court action

Canada wireless operator Telus has gone to court to seek a clarification of the country's new foreign ownership rules, which apparently make it easier to transfer bandwidth rights among carriers. Verizon has admitted to holding exploratory talks to enter the Canadian market, a development that has alarmed the country's three major carriers. Verizon might be aware of the growing demand for smartphones: Google issued an online survey showing that 56% of Canada's adults owned a smartphone compared with 33% a year ago.
