Scientists probe possible connection between phthalates, preterm birth

Scientists in Puerto Rico are investigating whether there is a link between phthalates and the island's high rate of preterm births. The Protect study is recruiting 2,000 expectant mothers. Nearly 20% of babies are born early in Puerto Rico, which also has one of the highest concentrations of Superfund contamination sites in the U.S.
