New law to be issued on single-use medical device recycling

Hospitals and federal regulators say safety isn't compromised in reprocessing single-use medical devices, but device manufacturers say the practice threatens patient safety since the products are not designed for multiple uses. A new law will take effect Tuesday requiring the tagging of all reprocessed equipment with the reprocessor's name, in an attempt to determine liability in the case of a problem.
