Opinion: Communities must help to close achievement gap

If the U.S. wants to close the achievement gap, communities must act to offer disadvantaged students more out-of school opportunities, such as museum visits and internships, says Voices in Urban Education editor Robert Rothman. "If we are serious about ensuring that all children learn to high levels, we need to address both the inequities within schools and those outside of schools," he writes.
