Companies pour over drinks with stevia-based sweeteners

PepsiCo says it has plans to introduce an enhanced water drink made with a stevia-based sweetener to select Latin American markets within the next few weeks, according to reports. Coca-Cola and Cargill last year introduced a stevia-based sweetener, Truvia, that Coke reportedly plans to use in products in the U.S. before the end of the year, pending FDA approval. "This is probably the biggest change in the formulation of beverages since the initial days of artificial sweeteners," said a Pepsi executive.
