Craft brewers set sights on distilling

Some breweries on the West Coast are branching out, making whiskey and rum in addition to their craft brews. "It's a natural progression really -- brewing to distilling," said the head brewer at Ballast Point in San Diego. "The alchemy of changing malt into beer is essentially one step away from making spirits ... Distilling is really a form of advanced brewing."
