DHS funding: Another year without authorization bill

Funding for DHS initiatives in the next fiscal year will again be doled out in "bits and pieces." Despite a vocal and growing push to create an authorization bill like that for defense, Congress is allowing DHS to operate status quo for at least one more year. "If you're going to be a serious committee, you should do an authorization bill the way serious committees do them and not in bits and pieces," said Peter King, R-N.Y., who since 2006 has been pushing for a DHS authorization bill.
