House gives FDA more power with passage of food safety bill

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a food safety bill giving the FDA more power to inspect facilities and orchestrate recalls of tainted food. The bill also makes farmers and food processors more responsible for preventing contamination. A Senate version is expected to be taken up after the August recess.
