Increase in bank seizures drives FDIC to try new selling approach

Banks' deteriorating commercial real estate assets, as well as falling residential values, are driving the FDIC to try out some new approaches to selling the rapidly growing number of failed banks it has taken over. The agency may split up banks in the hope that selling the pieces is easier than disposing of the whole bank intact.
