Southwest plans to outbid Republic for Frontier Airlines

Southwest Airlines put in a bid of at least $113.6 million for Frontier Airlines, which is operating under bankruptcy protection. A $108.8 million bid from Republic Airways had been approved by a bankruptcy court, but the decision left the door open for a higher bid. Southwest executives said in a conference call that only Southwest and Republic had submitted bids for Frontier.
