Duncan: Teachers' salary scale should reach $150,000

Starting salaries for teachers should be about $60,000 and they should end their careers making about $150,000, Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Friday at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards conference. However, Duncan said he expects criticism from those who say the plan is unaffordable, given the current political and fiscal climate. In his remarks, Duncan also called for better teacher education and evaluation methods.
