Dredging project will aid produce ports on the Delaware River

A $300 million dredging effort that will make the Delaware River 5 feet deeper is expect to conclude in early 2016. Philadelphia Regional Port Authority's senior deputy director, Robert Blackburn, said in an interview that the deeper water will solidify the area as a premier fresh fruit importer. Philadelphia has long been the leading port for Chilean fruit, while Wilmington, Del., is a major banana importer.
