Interest-rate increases could spell trouble for banks

The increasing amount of bonds that banks hold can become problematic when interest rates rise, according to some analysts. Bonds and related instruments make up almost 99% of the four biggest banks' investment portfolios, according to SNL Financial. If rates increase rapidly, "it's a very significant issue for the industry," said James Abbott of Zions Bancorp.
