Manufacturer invests in productivity to fuel growth

Katzkin Leather has installed a Lectra Versalis cutting machine that is expected to waste less material and improve productivity. That kind of innovation may be the key to manufacturing growth, says MAPI senior economist Cliff Waldman. "What U.S. manufacturers need to do is compete on productivity. Other countries compete with cheap labor. We have to be more productive. If you want that, you have to innovate."
