Analysis: The rise and fall of Qplay

TiVo co-founders Michael Ramsay and Jim Barton were hoping to find repeat success with Qplay, a startup offering a device that played short-form Internet videos, but the company closed its doors last week. "While TiVo’s hardware did the heavy lifting of amassing hours of programming and neatly filing it away on internal hard drives, the Qplay box was difficult to justify owning," Ross Rubin writes, adding that since its product involved an iPad application, for playback on the Apple tablet, Qplay wasn't able to make much progress against rivals.
