FDA halts lab closures to await September panel report

The FDA stopped action aimed at closing half of its field laboratories to allow time for a presidential panel to recommend how the agency can guarantee product safety. The Import Safety Working Group is due to report in mid-September, and Commissioner Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach said his agency would wait for the report before making further moves.
