JCS nominee would deploy evolving missile defense system

President George W. Bush's nominee for chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said he favors deploying ballistic missile defense system components "as soon as they become available." Adm. Michael Mullen said the need for system components is urgent, and they should be deployed even if they are not completely operationally effective.
