Government data increasingly showing signs of a recession

Government data released Thursday made it appear more likely that the country's economy has slid into a recession. The economy expanded more slowly than expected in the second quarter, while fourth-quarter numbers were revised to show a contraction. The fourth-quarter revision marked the first economic contraction since the recession of 2001.
