Amid layoffs, districts still recruit from Teach for America

As school districts nationwide lay off teachers to help balance their budgets, resentment is building toward Teach for America, where in districts such as Charlotte-Mecklenburg in North Carolina, officials continue to hire the recruits, whose teaching careers often are short-lived. Officials say they are committed to the program despite data that show TFA graduates may be no more effective than other teachers.
