Women who lead on the rise in Kentucky

Women-owned businesses have been increasing in Lexington, Ky., since 2002, when they accounted for 26% of the city's businesses. To carve a place for themselves in the city's male-dominated business environment, though, women have had to work harder. "Women haven't been in the marketplace and haven't had those contacts. Being a new business owner is exciting, but you don't have that long-standing record of service. You have to prove yourself," Lexington NAWBO President Cathy Stafford said.
