School gardens spring up in Charlotte, N.C., area

About 30 student gardens are expected at schools in Mecklenburg County, N.C., this year to incorporate nutrition and healthy foods into the curriculum and cafeteria. Some garden programs are organized by parents or schools that get grant money to fight obesity, while others are initiatives from groups such as Slow Food Charlotte, which seeks to create more locally grown food.
