U.S. House approves bill to raise debt ceiling

In a 269-161 vote, the U.S. House approved legislation to raise the debt limit and impose deep spending cuts over a decade. The Senate is scheduled to vote today. Borrowing would be reduced at least $2.1 trillion without additional tax revenue.
