ARPA-E seeks ways to stockpile sunlight

ARPA-E, the government's energy-innovation agency, is trying to find ways to store solar energy until it's needed rather than using it immediately. One promising approach involves splitting sunlight and using some spectra to generate heat and others to generate electricity. Heat is easier to store, and could allow hybrid solar generators to keep providing energy once the sun sets.
