Budget allows Fla. districts to issue debit cards to teachers to buy supplies

Some Florida teachers this year will receive debit cards with which they can purchase up to $250 worth of classroom supplies. While many teachers acknowledge that they spend much more than that every year, state officials note that the debit cards -- to be issued by districts as part of an increase in state education funding -- could help teachers get better deals on supplies by purchasing items from the state bid list with tax-exempt status.
