Court: Mich. elementary school can ban nuts

A Michigan elementary school's policy banning all peanuts and tree nuts from its building was upheld Tuesday by the state's Court of Appeals. Under the policy -- established because a student has a life-threatening allergy -- school officials may periodically search students' lunch boxes and backpacks. A parent who challenged the school district's policy in court claimed it violated her child's civil rights and a state statute guaranteeing the right of parents to participate in education.
