GAO calls for clarification of FDA's role in compounding regulation

A report released by the Government Accountability Office on Wednesday called for clarity in the regulation of drug compounders, finding that state and federal oversight powers are "unclear" and "inconsistent." The GAO also found that separate court decisions gave the FDA varying oversight authority in different parts of the U.S. and that overall, there is no agreement as to whether it should be a state or federal responsibility.
