Ind. withdraws from PARCC

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is withdrawing the state from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, one of two consortia developing assessments aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The state's board of education joined PARCC and adopted the standards in 2010, but lawmakers in April "paused" participation in both. "(I) firmly believe it is the right and responsibility of the state to make independent, fiscally responsible decisions regarding standards and assessments for the good of all the people of Indiana," Pence said.
