Male elephant at Pittsburgh Zoo diagnosed with autoimmune condition

A young bull elephant at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium has an autoimmune disease rendering him more susceptible to infection, according to zoo officials. Zoo veterinarian Ginger Takle noted that after the elephant had cutaneous lesions that took longer than expected to heal, testing revealed the autoimmune condition.
