Senate advances Obama-inspired cybersecurity legislation

The Senate commerce committee approved a bill designed to strengthen U.S. cybersecurity based on a framework advanced by the Obama administration, opening the door for full consideration by the chamber. The Cybersecurity Act of 2013, which passed with bipartisan support, would create voluntary guidelines for private companies involved in critical industries that would be developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
