Android accounted for 80% of global smartphone shipments in the second quarter, with the total growing by 47% from a year before, according to data from Strategy Analytics. Meanwhile, "Apple iOS reached 14% global smartphone share in the quarter, its lowest level since Q2 2010," Strategy Analytics' Neil Mawston noted. The drop for Apple is due to the expanded offerings of the Google application store, John Koetsier writes. Microsoft also saw growth, moving into third place with a 4% share, a record high for the company, Mawston notes.
