Sub's individual surety may have ties to man linked to insurance controversies

Some leading New York contractors accepted about $23 million in surety bonds from a subcontractor who was backed by an individual surety associated with a Florida man linked to controversial surety issues, according to court documents, an investigator and others. The matter was revealed when the individual surety denied payment on the bonds after the subcontractor filed for bankruptcy protection in June 2012.
