Vaccination rates among U.S. kindergartners nearly hit national targets

Overall, vaccination rates of children entering kindergarten during the 2012-2013 school year were at or near the national targets, CDC researchers wrote in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Among the kindergartners, 94.5% were up to date with their measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, 95.1% received the dTAP vaccine, and 93.8% were vaccinated against chickenpox. Despite the high vaccination rates, about 91,453 kindergarteners were exempted from getting the recommended vaccines for religious, medical or philosophical reasons.
