$550M convention hotel could transform D.C. neighborhood

Officials hope a long-delayed convention hotel project in Washington, D.C., which finally received approval from the City Council last week, will help usher in a renaissance for the city's Shaw neighborhood. The new $550 million, 14-story Marriott Marquis hotel will span more than 1 million square feet at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Ninth Street and will incorporate the old headquarters of the landmark American Federation of Labor building.
