Group advocates for corporate sustainability reporting

The International Integrated Reporting Committee is promoting guidelines for reporting corporate finances along with measurements in areas such as sustainability and social responsibility, Robert G. Eccles writes. Some companies, such as Southwest Airlines and United Technologies, already submit such reports "to communicate their sincere commitments to a sustainable strategy and to instill the necessary internal discipline to implement it," he argues. However, the move to integrated reporting still faces obstacles such as linking nonfinancial performance to the bottom line and persuading investors and analysts to tune in, he writes.
