Propane and wildfires don't mix, official says

Three wildfires swept across California last week, leading some to call for a ban on aboveground propane tanks. Clearing trees and brush and having flame retardants handy can help, but exposed propane tanks will always be a risk factor, says wildfire-safety campaigner Deborah Hand. "When you have houses built in a fire-prone area in remote canyons with propane tanks, you are asking for trouble," she says.
