Survey: July brought fewer jobs, more hours

Small businesses added about 40,000 jobs in July, an increase of 0.2%, according to Intuit's Small Business Employment Index. Although the growth was slower than in June, U.S. workers also saw their wages and hours increase, the survey of 62,000 small businesses found. Average pay increased by 0.7% to $2,624, and average hours rose by 0.9% to 109.1 per month.
