Why companies shouldn't fear emissions rules

Corporate America shouldn't fear the Environmental Protection Agency's plan to require carbon-intensive companies to report their emissions, Zoe Tcholak-Antitch writes. More than half of U.S.-based S&P 500 companies already report emissions, and many have found their carbon bean counting helps them isolate areas for efficiency improvements and cost-cutting. "You can't figure out where you're going if you don't know where you are," notes Kathrin Winkler, EMC's senior director of corporate sustainability.
